I’m falling back in love with Arch Linux, and LARBS
It’s true; I’ve been away for a bit. Mostly off in “Windows land” chasing my League of Legends goals. Well, after being hardstuck Silver for many years, I decided to take my climb very seriously and I’m ending the season with 2x Plat 4 accounts. I played a bit on both of them and kept bouncing between p4 0LP and p4 100LP, but I realized that I accomplished more than I ever set out to accomplish during the season and I’m taking a break for the time being.
On the “afk” side of things, I’ve been getting into cooking with my fiance, mostly with recipes from Budget Bytes per a friend’s recommendation, though I’m keeping an eye on based.cooking’s RSS feed for any recipes I may have an interest in trying out. I’m actually sorting through my RSS reader’s tracked URLs while making various tweaks to the different parts of my OS, which is what prompted me making this post in the first place. Today we made loaded mashed potato bowls and we used our pressure cooker for the first time in a very long while, and made mashed potatoes for the first time in our relationship; all of this after a morning of fried eggs and smoothies
Back in “Linux land,” I just love the “Unix philosophy,” and I’ve been enjoying having excuses to spend more time shell scripting. I do regularly fall back on Python as my “comfort language,” but I try to keep that to the cases where it makes the most sense (ie: speed doesn’t matter at all). I’ve even gone ahead and added The Linux Command Line to my Calibre since I haven’t been spending much time with physical books lately, opting to use Calibre & listening to audiobooks instead. Outside of that, I had considered Artix for my recent install on my laptop, but I opted to stick with the trusty Arch; I hear the arguments against systemd, but it’s the init system I feel the most comfortable with and I figure I should be tinkering on devices other than my laptop if I want to go a different route
Everything is League of Legends
I want to run Arch on everything. I want to script everything I do regularly. I want it all to seamlessly share over “my own cloud” (read: a low-end NAS). I want to do more with my webserver, but I don’t want to spend more on my webserver :P. I’m certain that I’ll never reach a point in my “Linux journey” where I feel like “I’m done,” but I feel like I’ve made enough progress to be considered somewhere between g4 and g2, and I’m interested in gunning for my Plat promos 🫢
Similar to my break away from League, I’m also on a (probably) short break away from vapor, a genre I adore so much. I’m on at least a tangentially related (imo) kick of black metal lately. I had only ever really gotten into the “heavy hitters” of black metal, such as BURZUM, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Immortal, and of course stuff like Alcest and Blut aus Nord. I can’t say that I’m getting into the really deep cuts or anything, but I’ve been rummaging around the more modern stuff lately
Warm… November nights…?
Lastly, what’s with the title of this post? Well, this wasn’t just meant to be an “I love Linux” or “I hit my League goals” post; I just wanted to give a bit of an update since I’ve been MIA from corbin.zip. Anyhow, the story I’ll leave you with is that we contracted some weatherization work around our home, which included spray foam to help with insulation. I was a bit ignorant and was actually surprised that we “might” need to vacate our home for “24 hours.” Well, after 48 hours away from home and trying to keep our kitties under control at my fiance’s parents’ house, the kitties only managed to break a single glass; they did manage to knock countless other things over, of course, but I don’t believe anything else broke. We come back home and we’re still uncomfortable with the level of fumes in the air so we agree to open all of the screened windows for the entire night. To our surprise, it was in the high 50’s when we returned home yesterday, and the temperature kept climbing to above 60 as the night went on, reaching its high in the middle of the night!
This probably isn’t incredibly notable to many given how much the climate varies by location, but I remember trick-or-treating in the snow as a kid – and here we are 2 weeks after Halloween with 60+ degree weather in the middle of the night! Tonight seems to be relatively similar, but I don’t believe it’ll get above 50. This should be the last night that we need to air any fumes out; there is almost no scent at all but I’d say we’re just being justifiably cautious
The kitties did very well, but they meow’d a bit on the drive away and the drive back. These kitties never meow. And now this morning, they were meowing to wake us up… 🐈 Perhaps the days of meow-free kitties are over
I hope all who made it this far are doing well, and continue to do well. All the best
